Architectural Heritage
Inserted in a region rich in architectural heritage, Vila Nova da Barquinha has in Almourol Castle its crown jewel, and throughout the County this heritage is very visible, from which we highlight the Tancos parish church, the Atalaia parish church or the bullring of Vila Nova da Barquinha, the second oldest in the country. In the region, cities like Tomar, Abrantes and Torres Novas have in their architectural heritage some of the most important and most visited monuments of the country.
Local Gastronomy
As a riverside municipality, Vila Nova da Barquinha has in the Tagus River its source and inspiration. The typical gastronomy includes Caldeiradas (fish stews), Sopa de Peixe do Rio (river fish soup), Barbos (pork roe), Fataça (fataça), Açorda de Sável (shad stew), Arroz de Lampreia (lamprey rice) and Enguias (eels).
