  • Take

Developed from the construction of its castle in 1160, which would become the headquarters of the Knights Templar in Portugal, its exlibris are the Castle and the Convent of Christ. With a vast architectural wealth, visible in examples such as the Synagogue, the oldest in Portugal, the Churches of S. João Baptista and of Santa Maria do Olival, or even the imposing Pegões Aqueduct, which once supplied water to the Convent of Christ. The natural wealth of Tomar should also be highlighted, as is the case of the Mata dos Sete Montes, the Mouchão Island or even the Castelo de Bode reservoir. In what concerns intangible heritage, it is impossible to talk about Tomar without mentioning the Festa dos Tabuleiros (Feast of trays), held every 4 years, with origins that date back to the Cult of the Holy Spirit.

  • Constância

Constância, land of poets, guarantees that Camões lived here. Rich in natural resources, and with a vast historical and cultural heritage, Constância has in its riverside area, a meeting place between the rivers Tejo and Zezere, one of the biggest attractions of the region. Deeply vandalized during the French invasions, and later recovered, it has reached the present day with a vast architectural heritage, with examples such as the Church of Nossa Senhora dos Mártires, the Pillory, the Church of Misericórdia, the Clock Tower or the Chapel of Sant'Ana. More recently, initiatives such as the Life Science Center - Astronomy Park, or the Tropical Butterfly House, make Constância a town with enormous tourist potential.

With a permanent exhibition rich in historical railway heritage, and temporary exhibitions, it allows us to get to know the true national treasures that went through the history of railway transport.
